Theft Triggers Somerset Mall Blackout
Eskom has strongly condemned the theft and vandalism of high-voltage electrical infrastructure after the incident left Somerset Mall and surrounding businesses without power for three days.
The damage caused widespread disruption for businesses, employees, and customers, with Eskom's technical teams working around the clock to restore electricity. The utility has also renewed its call for the public to report suspicious activity as it intensifies its "Hands Off!" anti-crime campaign to combat infrastructure theft.
Eskom says crimes such as cable theft and vandalism continue to place enormous strain on the electricity network, affecting entire communities and causing costly outages.

Helderberg Knits for Kids
Local non-profit organisation Masikhule is once again calling on the Helderberg community to make a difference this Mandela Day by knitting, crocheting, or donating handmade items for young children in need.
The annual Cast On 4 Kids initiative will provide beanies, teddy bears, balls, blankets, and small fleece blankets to more than 2,500 children aged three months to five years across 70+ early childhood development centres from Sir Lowry's Pass to Eerste River. Community members are invited to spend 67 minutes knitting, crocheting, or dropping off donations at Urban Voice Church in Somerset West on 17 July.
The initiative is a simple but meaningful way for the Helderberg community to honour Mandela Day, helping bring warmth, comfort, and smiles to thousands of young children this winter.
