Toyota Corolla Cross Now a Target for Hijackers
Discovery Insure has identified the Toyota Corolla Cross as a high-risk vehicle for theft and hijacking following a sharp rise in related claims.
Owners of certain models, including the Corolla Cross 1.8 XR, must now install two Crowd Search Sensors to maintain their theft and hijacking cover. Failure to do so could result in this cover being removed from their policy.
Security experts say the Corolla Cross has become a target because of its popularity and demand for spare parts. Motorists are being urged to stay vigilant, especially in high-risk areas, and consider additional security measures to help protect their vehicles.

Helderberg Hospital Gives Back
Residents at Zandvliet Care Centre in Macassar received a welcome Mandela Month surprise after Helderberg Hospital's management and staff donated essential items to support the facility and its residents. The initiative was made possible through contributions from hospital staff and management as part of their Mandela Month outreach.
The care centre provides permanent care for around 140 elderly residents and operates a 25-bed transitional care unit, helping patients recover before returning home or moving into long-term care. Hospital CEO Sharon Leo said the donation was about more than healthcare, highlighting the importance of building strong community relationships and supporting those in need.
The generous gesture reflects the spirit of Mandela Month, demonstrating how local organisations continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable members of the Helderberg community.
Somerset West Hosts Book Festival
More than 70 independent authors will gather in the Helderberg this August as the 2026 Indie Authors Rise Up Book Festival returns for its fourth year, celebrating local storytelling, self-publishing and creative talent. The festival runs from 14–23 August across Somerset West and Strand.
Visitors can enjoy 26 events hosted at local wineries, cafés, libraries and community venues, featuring book launches, author talks, writing workshops and panel discussions. The programme also includes sessions on self-publishing, copyright law, artificial intelligence in publishing, and marketing books, alongside appearances by award-winning authors and inspiring first-time writers.
The festival offers something for both readers and aspiring writers, providing a unique opportunity to discover new local authors, learn about the publishing industry, and support independent creatives from across the Western Cape.
